International Women's Day Celebration
sponsored by The Emma Center and WILPF
When: Saturday, March 8th, 1:30-5:30 PM
Where: Arcata Playhouse
Cost: FREE
Open to all even featuring: "How Healing Happens: a panel on trauma, the body, and integrative healing", followed by The Raging Grannies, awarding of the 2014 the Edilith Eckert Peace Scholarship, a presentation on International Women's Day around the world, music by Sarah Torres, and performances by Ya Habibi belly dancing troupe, the Philippine Ladies Dancing Ensemble, and Hoopdance of Humboldt.

One Billion Rising for Justice
When: February 14, 1:00-3:30pm, "Flash mob dance" at 2:14 pm
Where: Arcata Plaza
Cost: FREE
Make a statement through movement that you won't tolerate any more violence against women or girls in our local community or around the world. No previous dance experience needed, you can make a statement just by being present and showing support in numbers.

Women's Self Defence Class
When: February 16th, 11:00am-1:30pm
Where: North Coast Self-Defense Academy, 820 N St, Arcata
Cost: $5 suggested donation
This class is for women and teens who are interested in learning self defense skills. Betsy Roberts and Justin Gaffney, as well as the North Coast Self Defense Team, will instruct the class, providing knowledge and tools to deal with the potential of a dangerous attack. Participants are asked to wear comfortable clothes or sports attire.
The Vagina Monologues

Where: North Coast Repertory Theater, 300 5th St, Eureka
Cost: $15 at the door, $12 online pre-sales, $10 seniors and students
The award winning play by Eve Ensler will be directed by Megan Johnson. This play is based on V-Day Founder/ playwright Eve Ensler's interviews with more than 200 women. With humor and grace the piece celebrates women’s sexuality and strength. Through this play and the liberation of this one word, countless women throughout the world have taken control of their bodies and their lives. For more than twelve years, The Vagina Monologues has given voice to experiences and feelings not previously exposed in public.
